CONCRETE THOUGHTS:
SOCIALISM & SOCIAL CHANGE IN THE VALLEY, FROM PAST TO PRESENT
Lecture and Discussion Series
Saturday Sept 12, Sept 19, Sept 26, & Oct 3 | 1- 3 pm
A series of talks and discussions surrounding socialism and social change in Annapolis Valley, from past to present.
Charles Macdonald was a folk artist, socialist, and activist who used concrete both as an artistic medium and as a revolutionary material. Macdonald viewed concrete as a challenge to the capitalist system, describing it as something permanent and durable.
To continue his legacy of advocating for social change, we will host speakers to discuss topics ranging from working class history, social activism, environmentalism, and how artists and the working class play a role in social movements. Presenters will speak about current issues, as well as the history of social change, connecting the story of our small museum to larger themes at play in the region. This will be followed by a chance for audience questions and discussion.
Featuring presentations from El Jones, Sue Goyette, Nina Newington, Stephen Henderson, Lisa Lachance, Katie Mazer, Jasmine McMorran, and more.
Stay tuned for more information performers and biographies, coming soon.
