AFFINITY

Ted Lind

Opening Sunday, August 2 | 1–4 pm

I am an artist from Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia.  My artwork is continually evolving, but its constants are strong colour and consistent layering of materials. I have been influenced by a large range of art that I have seen and studied during a 35-year career in art museums, and my overall experiences of living in a variety of diverse communities.

Since moving to Nova Scotia in 2013, I have been able to focus the energy of my practice on abstract, non-objective work.  The energy in the implied “infinity” (water, land, open sky) around me leads me to generate an abundant range of images - geometric, natural, textural, and full of colour.  But, at times, I also want to create figurative images that are drawn from memories and my imagination.  I see an affinity to both abstract and figurative, as I want the viewers of my work to see the complex layering and arrangement of shapes that I thrive on in each created piece.  I hope people will feel the abundant joy that I get through the creation of art that is personal and, I think, universal.

TED LIND

I am a practicing artist and an active board member of the Annapolis Region Community Arts Council.  I retired in 2013 after 40 years working as an art educator and curator.  Most of my career was spent in art museums and I have a special fondness for my time at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Albany Institute of History & Art, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Newark Museum of Art.  I majored in visual arts at Albion College (Michigan) and earned my Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the Rochester Institute of Technology (New York). I was a Max Beckmann Fellow in Advanced Painting Studies at the Brooklyn Museum Art School in New York.  I also spent time apprenticed to a silversmith in Tlaquepaque, Mexico.  I greatly enjoy viewing art with other people, both young and old, and believe that art can help us all find perspective in a complex world.  I live in Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia with my wife, Judy, and we both enjoy closely following the arts careers of our three grown daughters.
